Rabat Things to Do
Beauty, both natural and man-made, can be found throughout Rabat affording travellers the unique ability to take in a piece of history touring ruins, tombs, and remnants of ancient civilizations with the tranquil ocean and beautiful gardens as a backdrop. There is so much to see and do within walking distance of most hotels in Rabat that tourists will never run out of activities even during the longest of stays.
First on any traveller’s itinerary when planning a trip to Rabat should be a day spent touring the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Hassan Tower. These two famous landmarks are located directly across from one another so it would not be too ambitious to attempt to visit both in one day. The Mausoleum is the tomb of Mohammed V and his two sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdullah. With a dome of stained glass casting coloured light throughout the Mausoleum, and ruins lining the outside of the structure, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V is definitely a wonderful photo opportunity for any visitor.
The Hassan Tower, situated across from the Mausoleum, was envisioned by King Hassan II to be the world’s largest minaret, but construction was cut short by his death. The tower still stands at half its intended height and the top can be accessed by ramps.
With scenic vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and offering one of the most picturesque views of Rabat, Kasbah des Qudayas is another attraction tourists should definitely plan to visit. The Holy War era structure was once a fortified convent. With paved streets, architecture, and colours displaying Spanish influences, this fascinating place provides an interesting view into the history of Moroccan culture.
