Phnom Penh Attractions - Tonle Bati and Ta Prohm
Most of the Phnom Penh hotels in the city will reference the day trips which regularly run to Ta Prohm and Tonle Bati. In fact, visitors staying in any discount Phnom Penh hotel will probably find this to be a highlight of any trip to this Cambodian city. Scheduled tours begin at Ta Prohm, which is a Bayon-style temple that was initially built in the late 12th century and then left to crumble over the years. Staff working at any of the Phnom Penh hotels will be able to explain the history of the Angkorian ruins and the people who built them, but the only way to experience the culture and history for yourself, is to actually explore it after leaving your discount Phnom Penh hotel behind.
In addition to visiting the 12th century temple at Ta Prohm, the treks through the temple ruins also visit the Yeay Peau temple and the village of Tonle Bati,(known for its silk weaving), and the temple of the Black Virgin located at Prasat Neang Khmao, before returning to the comfort of the Phnom Penh hotels back in the city. The trips generally run around 70 US dollars, although prices fluctuate depending on the economy, and the trip includes air-conditioned vehicle transfer both from and to the hotel, admission fees to the various temples, and an English-speaking guide. The trip starts at 8am and lasts until 6pm, so bring plenty of sunscreen and water and prepare for a day of adventure.
