Almeria is a city by the beach that is located on the coast of Spain. It has a warm and dry climate that is most attractive for beach goes from foreign countries. The city has lots of cultural attractions to offer and the beach nearby is also a tourist attraction itself.

The Alcazaba is one of the most stunning sights in Almeria. It is a Moorish fortress that is located on top of a cliff. The ancient fortress has an overlooking view of the city. It is a beautiful relic of the time when Almeria was occupied by the Moors. In fact, the name Almeria came from the Moors which means “mirror of the sea” in Moorish.

The next place that you should see is the towering cathedral in the city which was built in the 16th century. It is located in the old Town and it is impossible to miss because it towers over all of the other structures within its vicinity. After exploring the cathedral, you can take a leisurely stroll along the streets of the old Town. You will enjoy exploring the winding streets and viewing the old structures that you pass by. Before leaving the old Town, you must make a stop at the traditional market to window shop or buy some souvenirs.

If you want to know more about the rich history of Almeria then you must visit the archaeological museum in the city. You can learn about the city’s history through the relics and displays at the museum. You will find out that the city was once a fortress of the Moors and it was later taken over by the Christians. After some time the city was attacked by the Berber pirates and then during the Spanish civil war the city was bombed by the Germans.

While spending your holidays in Almeria, you must also visit Mojacar which is just a nearby town. This town also has a very eventful history that spans for more than 4,000 years. It was once occupied by the Moors, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans and Phoenicians. The town flourished when it was under the rule of the Moors. It was also during this time when the huge castle was constructed and the walls of the town were fortified. Today, Mojacar boasts of beautiful beaches that extend for 17 kilometers. You can also explore the La Iglesia de Santa Maria which is a fortress that was built in the 14th century.
