Because of the close proximity to the Karakoram and Himalayan mountain ranges Ladakh tourism satisfies the needs of adventure hungry tourists. Best time to visit Leh Ladakh is from May to October when the weather is moderate. Here are some of the adventure activities which a Leh Ladakh tour can offer. Only deterrent for a tourist expecting luxurious overnight stay is that except for hotels in Leh, one has to make do with whatever accommodation that is available.

Nun-Kun Massif in the Himalayan Ranges is the most sought after mountain climbing spots. One needs to book a slot years in advance for this activity. Equally in demand is the Stok-Khangri Massif of the Zanskar Range. In the Karakoram Range there are many peaks to climb, but a climber needs special permission as most of the peaks lie within the restricted area.

For cycling freaks, the hilly terrain of Ladakh offers great opportunities to visit many popular Buddhist Gompas located in remote areas. Ladakh tourism highlights these adventure filled activities to attract young tourists who simply love to indulge in such activities.

One of the main attractions of Leh Ladakh tour is the jeep safari, which offers endless options to explore the beautiful hills as well as valleys and remote stretches of Ladakh. Tsmori-Ri, Nubra and Dah Hanu offer wonderful driving experience in the Himalayan ranges. While driving to Nubra valley, the tourist has to drive through the Khardungla pass which is the highest motorable road in the world being located at an altitude of 5,648 meters. Another adventurous driving experience is while driving down the world's third highest motorable road through Changla pass to see Pangong Lake which is situated very close to Indo-China border.

Yak safari provides you with a once in a life time experience. These rough and tough mountain oxen can sustain themselves at an altitude of 6,000 m during summers. By choosing a Yak safari, tourists can explore remote lakes, snow peaks and glacial valleys which cannot be accessed by any other means since these places do not have motorable roads. Yak safari is a unique feature of Ladakh tourism.

Only in Ladakh can a tourist can have an unforgettable trekking experience when he treks on the frozen Zanskar river. The river freezes during winter months of October to February. The wonderful trek follows the traditional trading route through the Zanskar Gorge, which is otherwise impassable during summer when the river melts. This winter trekking is a feather in the cap as far as Leh Ladakh tour is concerned.

Close proximity to the mountain ranges has given the place many passes which serve as natural gateways to connect Ladakh with other regions. The highway connecting Srinagar and Ladakh passes through the Zogila pass, which is one of the highest mountain passes in the world. The pass is located at an altitude of 3,530 meters. Due to heavy snowfall during the winter months, this pass remains closed for almost six months in a year.

Hotels in Leh were not that many until recently. But now that Ladakh has carved its name on the tourist map, one can expect to stay at decent Hotels in Leh.
