If you are looking to work in Australia while enjoying the beauty of the country, you need Australian working holiday visa. The visa allows young people aged between 18 and 30 to travel and work overseas. The visa is granted to those applicants who have reciprocal work holiday visa agreements with Australia.

The country has reciprocal arrangements for working holiday makers in effect with countries like UK, Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Ireland, Republic of Korea, Malta, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Hong Kong special administrative region of People’s Republic of China, Finland, Republic of Cyprus, France and Italy, Belgium, Estonia and Taiwan.

With changes in international scenario and improvement with international relations with other countries for the past one year there have been modifications and changes to Australian working holiday visas. Here is the list of modifications.

In July 2010 in order to improve integrity of Australian working holiday program, the department has implemented various practices to strengthen the checks of Australian working holiday visa applications. It includes seeking more information from concerned applicants and if necessary their employers to verify the evidence attached in support of visa application. Contacting third parties to check all the claims of the applicants for second Australian holiday working visa has become a standard components in case of second working visa application assessments.

In August 2010 an information flyer has been released to remind both the employers and labour supply companies about conditions surrounding employment of working holiday makers. And in the same year Australia’s work and holiday agreement with the country Bangladesh became effective from 31st December 201o.

On May 2011 as a part of 2011-12 budget allocation for Department of immigration and Citizenship, Minister Chris Bowen MP announced that the funding has been allocated in order to assist with the development of New Skilled Migrant Selection Model.

According to the proposal the Model will have two stage process where the potential applicants will first register their claims for skilled migration via EOI or Expression of Interest and subsequently might be invited to make an application for visa. This change was considered to be significant change from the then situation because applicants for independent or territory/state sponsored migration needed an invitation to lodge visa application. This Model will ensure the match between number of available program places and number of applicants and the selection of the best and brightest migrants and streamlined processing times.

Same in the month of May one another modification also came into existence. If an applicant lodges their application with Australian Immigration Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia the concerned applicant will be required to attend Visa Application Centre to provide their biometrics.

On October 2011 Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) have signed Work and Holiday Agreement to allow young people of both the countries to enjoy an extended holiday in respective countries. According to the agreement university educated travellers of both the countries aged between 18 and 30 years old will have work opportunity and holiday in each other’s country for a time period of 12 months after the program becomes effective.
