Cornwall really is a county for all seasons

Apart from those rare days when it is pouring with rain, Cornwall is in most respects just as appealing in the Winter and Spring as it is in Summer and early Autumn. The sunrises and sunsets can be particularly breathtaking at this time of year and there is something exhilarating about walking the cliff tops on a crisp, breezy day with the Atlantic surf crashing onto the rocks below. The temperature in this most South Westerly outpost of the United Kingdom is always relatively mild as the county enjoys the first taste of the warming Gulf Stream as it heads across the ocean.

Local hoteliers and holiday property owners all confirm that there is really no such thing as “ The Season “ any more with visitors now arriving all the year round. Fortunately for those looking to enjoy Cornwall’s charms outside the peak Summer period, occupancy rates and therefore, prices, are still sufficiently lower in the Winter and Spring to make a short break in the county all the more attractive at this time of year.

Those who normally go self-catering to save money will find that the luxury of staying in a well-appointed hotel is more than affordable outside the May – August peak period. There is a fine selection of establishments from which to choose at various price levels along both the South and North coasts. Visitors are strongly advised to stay by the sea. This is what Cornwall is all about. You will be hard pressed to find much of interest down the central spine of the county since this is mainly focused on Bodmin Moor and china clay pits.

The South Coast has a plethora of well known yachting and fishing harbours like Looe, Polperro, Fowey, Mevagissey, St. Mawes and Falmouth while a mile or so inland you will find the enchanting Lost Gardens of Heligan and the fascinating Eden Project. The North Coast is much better known for its wide sandy beaches and the towering cliffs around Tintagel and the Hartland Peninsula. Either way, there is plenty for visitors to enjoy regardless of the weather.
