Caribbean Vacations – Cruise around the islands
Caribbean vacations and cruises in particular are hugely popular all year round. The Caribbean is the world’s most popular cruise spot and attracts hundreds of ships exploring the bright blue waters and tropical islands, bringing with them visitors from all over the world.
Most cruise lines are attracted to its tropical waters during the winter months when the climate is at its best and there is no threat of hurricanes, so you can escape the cold weather at home and soak up the sun in the Caribbean!
With 7,000 islands ranging from the large sophisticated resort islands to small hidden gems, there is enough variety to tempt cruise ships of all sizes, from giant mega-ships accommodating more than 6,000 passengers to tiny luxurious craft barely carrying 100 people.
There are many cruises to choose from, whether you’re after an intimate getaway, or want to experience a huge liner with its vast range of amenities you will definitely find the perfect cruise for you.
Most cruises depart from ports in Florida such as Miami, Port Canaveral or Fort Lauderdale, but some ships are based at Caribbean islands such as Barbados or Puerto Rico; if you’re based in Europe you may need to arrange flights to the ports, but Tour operators organising your trip will be able to advise you further.
Sailings range from three days for a trip from Florida to the Bahamas to a month-long sailing of the whole region; while itineraries tend to focus on the Eastern Caribbean, calling at islands such as Antigua, St Lucia or St Maarten or Western Caribbean, stopping at the Cayman Islands, Jamaica or Cozumel.
Southern Caribbean sailings can include stops at islands such as Guadeloupe, Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago, while others include a trip up through the Panama Canal to the Pacific Ocean.
Some of the larger cruise lines even have their own private islands, which tend to be in the Bahamas, where passengers spend a day enjoying a unique private island experience with hidden beaches, a range of water sports and fabulous swimming spots.
