Trekking is one of the most univocal sources of adventure and exuberates. Be it a mediate mountain route or an arduous trekking trail, mountain trekking always gives a sense of conquest and pleasure. When mountain trekking in India is talked about, wonderful rugged terrains of Ladakh are hard to surpass over. Jaw-dropping altitude, inclement weather and boisterous paths make this region close to the heart of those with sense of trekking and adventure. And one such trekking trail in Ladakh is the Frozen Zanskar River Trail, which has long been a dream destination for trekkers and nature-loving tourists.

At a cloud-kissing altitude of 3850 meters, Zanskar River is flowing in the Zanskar region of Ladakh. The surrounding area is postcard picturesque and allures trekkers from far and wide, despite of the fact that it’s one of the toughest and most arduous trekking trails in India. The temperature around the trekking zone is sensationally gelid – the maximum temperature remains around 15 degree Celsius, while the minimum can go as low as -20 degree Celsius. This 105km long trekking trail crosses through wonderful landscapes, some destinations are far beyond one’s imaginations, and takes 6-7 day to be covered. However, you can go as far as you find it suitable based on your physical ability, time available and heath. But one thing is sure that when you returned from the journey, you would have a number of enchanting moments added in your memorabilia.

Trekking to the frozen Zanskar River is completely distinctive, and it takes some time to get adjusted to this way of walking. The junket starts with a trek from Tilat Sumdo to Bakula Bawo, which takes about 6 hours to complete the journey of 12km. On your way, you will have to fight with the full force of nature, but the alluring scenery and great sense of thrill and joy will make you go ahead on your path. After reaching the Bakula Bawo, take rest in the camp and restore energy for further perfidious trekking to the frozen Zanskar River. The next part of the journey will take you through amazingly beautiful ice-laden landscapes including frozen waterfalls and dreamlike ice cliffs.

I’m sure that trekking in this region will give you the experience of a lifetime. To make it more wonderful, take a well-informed Ladakh travel guide with you. The best time to visit here is of course the warm months, from April to August, when the climate becomes bearable in the region. However, don’t forget to carry warm woolen cloths even in the warm months. To perfectly plan your trip to Ladakh, you can buy a customized Ladakh package through a reputed travel agency. Nowadays, deals for Ladakh packages are available online, making it easy for travelers to find their best package.
