Hotels cater to a wide range of travelers with different needs. People look for accommodations based on their needs, budget, and the time they have to spend in a particular location. As far back as biblical times, people travelled for commerce, religion, family, health, immigration, education, and recreation, each time needing a place to stay.

The first hotels were nothing more than private homes opened to the public for a fee. In recent decades, hotels have evolved to offer better facilities and distinct services to discriminating travelers. Hotels are also event venues where balls, receptions, and big conferences are usually held.

In the U.S., the first public lodging or inn was recorded in 1607; this heralded a booming hospitality industry. The City Hotel in New York was the first publicly held hotel and opened in 1792, while the Tremont in Boston which opened in 1809 was recognized as the first modern hotel in the country. The Buffalo Statler, which opened in 1908, was considered the first business hotel.

From their modest beginnings, hotels have now become places of luxury and comfort, bearing prominent names or brands and catering to the needs of weary travelers worldwide. Hotel rates vary based on the services and amenities offered as well as the location. Other factors like proximity to popular attractions may also add to the cost of accommodation.

Increased worldwide tourist travel since the 20th century has compelled hotel chains to develop unique services to stand out and attract more customers. For instance, San Francisco boutique hotels differentiate themselves from larger hotel chains through their personalized and exceptional service and facilities as well as their historic associations with various persons or events. These hotels are stylishly furnished in accordance with a particular theme and are typically smaller than mainstream establishments.

San Francisco downtown hotels not only provide the best in comfort and style; they are also close to a lot of interesting sights. Guests can visit the world famous Golden Gate Bridge, the city’s symbol evoking romance and nostalgia to tourists, and the Golden Gate Park, which houses the Conservatory of Flowers, De Young Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, and many others. San Francisco’s Chinatown, the largest outside Asia, is also conveniently located near these hotels.

The best attraction, however, based on the number of visitors, are San Francisco hotels Union Square visitors and shoppers can easily access. The area is a bustling shopper’s paradise near the theater district, where department stores and boutiques are located including discount houses. Union Square provides visitors with a glimpse of the San Francisco lifestyle and its people. For more information on this subject, you may visit prlog.org.
