BIMTECH: International Students Experience Incredible India

By Esquared Subscribe to RSS | March 20th 2012 | Views:

Interacting with faculty and attending classes at BIMTECH campus, 14 Mexican students and their professor just reached the end of their visit to India.

With educational backgrounds in Economics, Business and Social Studies, the students under the India Study Program were here to understand Indian business practices and ethics, emerging market developments and challenges. Along with the classroom exposure they got a chance to see how Indian manufacturing and service companies function. “Classes have been very interesting. We did not know a lot of things about India, like the economy, the financial system but the industry visits we made here at New Holland Tractor, Bayer Material Science and NTPC, have been immensely insightful,” said one of the Mexican students as she sat prettily wrapped in a saree, wearing a bindi, churiyan and mehendi on her palms.

Some of them expressed surprise when they learnt that the Indian Economy is rising very, very fast. It is one of the few nations that haven’t been very severely affected by the global meltdown. “It is growing very fast. We did not know that India is the 4th largest, and I’m talking about the GDP,” she mentioned enthusiastically.

“We chose India because it is an emerging market,” said one of the boys. “India is growing very fast and we are interested in knowing what you are doing to grow so fast and implement it in our country.”

Visiting a factory, the Mexican students found many similarities they could relate to. But the difference is the friendliness that India has. “They work like a family. Even the BIMTECH students are very friendly and made us feel welcome.”

Completing the India Experience was the great Indian Weddings. “We did not know how long the weddings last. That is very interesting,” the girl in a saree said as she readied herself for a class.

Nine Austrian students and their professor were at BIMTECH from 13 to 23 February and were trying to get used to the difference that is India. “Power consumption is much more here than it is in Austria. Electronics use more battery. We have found there is a huge difference in how we use our electronics in our country and how it be being used here. There must be some way it can be improved,” they commented frankly on the infrastructure of the country.

However, there’s good news too. One of the girls of their team lost her passport and everyone was so caring that she got all the attention she needed. “It is a really warm atmosphere here for us. It is amazing,” they observed on the inherent Indian hospitality. “The students at BIMTECH are very forthcoming and take the time to help out.” Like the Mexicans, who also witnessed the charm of the colorful, warm country.

For the Austrians, the India experience was not just beautiful but enriching. They took back the vibrant, history drenched sightseeing – so totally different from their country, along with them.
