An actuator is a motor that moves or controls a mechanism or system and usually functions through an energy source like hydraulic fluid pressure, electric current or pneumatic pressure before converting the energy that has been produced into motion. An actuator is more commonly used in devices such as motors, switches, valves and pumps. The importance of actuators for modern-day purposes is large and many machines in industrial plants and even in households run with the help of actuators.

In more simple words, an actuator is a mechanical device that helps produce motion or movement by connecting to a component to move it. There are many different types of actuators although the most common one is the linear actuator or electric actuator.

A linear actuator is mechanical device that is used for sliding windows and swinging gates besides many other purposes. Linear actuators create motion in a straight line and not in circular motion produced by a conventional electric motor. They are commonly used in industrial machinery, computer peripherals and valves.

A linear or electric actuator is also used to operate aircraft flight controls. It is used for other purposes including height-adjustable beds and automatic swinging panels. Linear or electric actuators can be found in certain stores or through the internet. Since they’re used in so many different industries to make both work and private life easier, locating a store that deals in selling actuators might not be too difficult depending on your area.

If you’re not too familiar with the other types of actuators, using an electric actuator might be the best option for you as they are in a way, easier to use. Linear actuators are available in a variety of sizes. And if you’re wondering how you will be able to use an actuator, you need not worry as it will come with an instruction manual. The best place to search for an actuator would on the internet as you will be able to find a variety of them.

It should be mentioned that actuators provide for a safe, clean and quiet environment while accurately controlling motion. Actuators are generally energy efficient and have a long life-span besides requiring little or no maintenance.
