Yachting Safety Tips
There are plenty of things that you need to keep in mind when you are out on the open sea in your very own private yacht, explains John Rosatti. There are several maritime rules that all boaters must obey and pay attention to in order to stay safe while out on the water and there are also many general boating safety tips that you need to keep in mind in order to keep yourself and all of your boating guests safe at all times.
The first thing that you need to do is understand your responsibilities. Safety is your number one priority when you are out on the water so you should understand all of the features of your boat when you are operating it. The operator of a yacht is the person that is completely responsible when it comes to ensuring that each passenger on board has a life jacket. You should never launch a yacht if any passenger is missing a life jacket just like the driver of a car should not leave the parking spot unless everyone has their seat belt on.
The next thing you need to do once you understand all of your responsibilities is prepare yourself for being out to sea. You should always plan ahead whether you are taking a small daytrip or a month long cruise. John Rosatti recommends that you think about all of the conditions that the yacht will be operated under and all of the possibilities such changes in the weather or mechanical issues with the boat and what you would need to do if a problem were to come up. If you are new to yachting you should always acquire a lot of hours operating the yacht under calm water circumstances before you head out with potentially bad weather ahead. No matter what conditions are predicted ahead you should always plan to have all of the supplies and materials that you will need on hand and be ready to handle any circumstances that may arise.
Taking on the responsibilities of operating a yacht like John Rosatti means that you will need to be prepared for anything that comes your way. Having a first aid kit on hand with plenty of up to date supplies is necessary even if you plan on going on a short day trip for a few hours. You should always pack enough water and nutrition on board your yacht in order to sustain the passengers on board for the length of time that the yacht will be out. If your trip will last for one day, then you should multiply 64 ounces of water by the number of people that you have on board. This is the minimum amount of water that you should always have aboard your boat. Apply similar calculations for the amount of food that you will need on board as well. Sunscreen should also be packed and available for all of the guests to use. You should also make sure that all passengers who are on prescribed medication have the medicine that they will need for the time that you will be out to sea. Make sure that you have all of the medical supplies that are necessary as well for those who need special medical care
