Read on to know more about the entry travel tips to Kuala Lumpur.
Visa
Travellers taking airline tickets to Kuala Lumpur for vacations need not procure a visa well in advance. Usually, British citizens can make a stay in Kuala Lumpur for three months without a visa. However, a visa is required if travelling for non tourism reasons or for staying more than three months.
Travellers taking vacations in Kuala Lumpur should be mindful of not violating any entry rules or overstaying their visas. Overstaying the visa is a punishable offence and is subject to severe penalties. Tourists overstaying even for a few days can be fined and detained and finally deported back.
The Malaysian authorities closely monitor and inspect the immigration documents such as the work permit as part of their drive against illegal immigration.
Passports
Britons planning to flock to different destinations from Peninsular Malaysia to East Malaysia need to carry their passports to get approved entrance.
It is important for UK citizens to hold a passport to enter Kuala Lumpur. Travellers should ensure that the validity period on their passport is more than six months before from the date of entry into the city. Entry could be restricted or denied in case this requirement is not fulfilled.
Biometric Registration
From 1st June 2011, the Malaysian Immigration Department has initiated a unique biometric registration system for all the travellers entering Malaysia by land, air or sea. Travellers now need to undergo the biometric fingerprints activity at the immigration points before entering the city. However, children below the age of 12 years will be exempted from this process. Additionally, the holders of diplomatic passports and VVIPs with prior approval from the Immigration Department will also be exempted.
Exchange control
UK citizens taking air tickets to Kuala Lumpur do not need prior approval from the authorities if exporting or importing currency up to 1,000 Malaysian Ringgit per head. Likewise, there is no limit placed upon the export or import of foreign currencies and/or traveller’s cheques. However, if the total amount of such currency being carried exceeds the equivalent of USD 10,000 one needs to declare the amount to customs officials on entry and/or exit. Flouting of this rule can attract a fine as high as RM 1 million and/or up to three years’ detention.
Travelling with Children
Solo travellers like single parents booking airline tickets to Kuala Lumpur to travel alone with children should be mindful of carrying documentary proof of their parental responsibility like birth certificates or a letter of consent given by the other parent or any other documentary proof proving the accompanying adult to be responsible guardian for the child. Although, Malaysian authorities generally don’t entail such proofs, however, it sensible to enquire about the same from the Malaysian representation in the UK.
