The Concept of Reincarnation is Steadily Catching Ground

The very word reincarnation conjures up a sense of mysticism. A concept that was scoffed as "bosh and nonsense", and nothing but "poppycock". The reason could have been the implausibility of such a far-fetched concept that people simply just refused to accept. What does this term mean anyway? Let's attempt to delve deeper and see what comes up. In a nutshell the concept believes that the soul or spirit contained within a living human being is indestructible and it is the body that gets destroyed. The soul or spirit simply transmigrates into another body. However when it does so and into which body is not decided by the soul itself. Sounds a bit confusing, doesn't it?

It is true that this concept is directly connected to the beliefs of certain religions. The principal ones that firmly believe in the concept of reincarnation would be the major Indian religious traditions like Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. The idea had been followed by some Greek philosophers and other religious faiths like Druidism as well. The western cultures and religions however did not give much importance to such a possibility and were actually skeptical about such a belief that was steeped in mysticism and a degree of mystery as well. However the mysterious aspect of the concept did prompt many to capitalize by producing several successful movies based on this very idea.

The literal translation of the word "reincarnation" that was derived from Latin would simply mean "entering the flesh again". It did have equivalents in Greek and some other ancient languages. The ancient Indian language Sanskrit however did not have a corresponding term and simply described the concept as the outcome of karma and the nearest term could probably be Samsara which translates to an entire lifetime or rather, several lifetimes.

The Hindu religion believed that even the Gods reincarnated, though they also believed that the same Gods had no birth or death. What was probably implied is that the Gods themselves were exalted souls and therefore were indestructible, except when they had to take human forms. They would be governed by biological laws when they enter into the earth as human beings. Therefore the only difference in the reincarnation of humans and the Gods according the Hindu religious beliefs would be that the exalted souls of the Gods retain the individual identities in spite of several rebirths. They ultimately go back to being Gods; however humans are reborn as per their karma and have no knowledge or remembrance of their previous births. They would not even have an inkling of how many such births and deaths they have gone through as it is believed to be cyclical.

The firm belief however would be that the cycle would stop at one time if the karma permits such an occurrence. And the karma would permit it only if the person in that particular birth or incarnation makes an attempt to realize himself which would ultimately lead to realizing God. Therefore asking oneself the question "who am I" or "self-analysis" was the key to put an end to reincarnation once for all and attain ultimate bliss. Strange and unexplained occurrences like child prodigies who had amazing talents in specific fields like music, math or possession of phenomenal memory power were all attributed to reincarnation. It was believed that the only explanation to such an enigma was that the person was accomplished in that particular field in his previous birth. As he had not lived a fulfilling life in his previous birth, the tormented soul found its way back into the earth through another body; however as a rare case it came back with snatches of memory retained from the previous birth. Though sounding far-fetched in cannot be ruled out as implausible. Programs related to similar paranormal activities are aired by cable service providers like Dish TV.
