These days, magic shows have become very popular on TV. Probably the main reason why we love watching magic or trick is because of man’s curious nature to fall for things that are deceptive in nature. Magic is a performance that entails several tricks and illusions in order to captivate the attention of the audience. The feats performed by magicians are simply called magic tricks or illusions. And they more often than not seem to be supernatural or impossible in nature.

It’s a simple fact that we like to play small tricks with our fellow beings just to see the expression of their incredulity and laugh out loud. However, professional magic (or a trick) is totally different. The ease with which the magicians perform their tricks may baffle the viewers, but it calls for endless hours of practice and is not an easy task by any standards.

There are different types of magic performances. Some of them are stage illusions (which is performed in a stage), platform magic (or stand-up magic), micromagic (which is the close-up or table magic), online magic tricks, shock magic (magic that shocks the audience), and bizarre magic (which may be related to horror or fantasy). The world has seen some amazingly talented magicians in the past. They deserve a lot of credit for making this art so popular for what it is today. Robert-Houdin was a French magician who lived in the 19th century. He is widely regarded as the ‘father of a modern magic’ and he was well-known for his conjuring magic tricks. He is also credited to be the first person to use all kinds of equipments to showcase his bag of tricks. He administered his magic tricks with the use of science and technology.

He was able to use his sleight as a clockmaker and devised gadgets that were commonly used. One of his classical tricks called ‘the Light and Heavy Chest’ was based on the theory of electromagnetism. He performed an interesting trick with his small money box. He invited a man from the audience and asked him to lift his money box. But he was not even able to move the tiny box which was finally lifted by the great magician himself with a great amount of ease. However, none of the audience realized that a powerful magnet was attached to the tiny box from under the table and held tightly by one of the magician’s assistants. However, in the succeeding years, with the development of technology, magicians were able to showcase some hi-tech tricks.

Magic shows are not only popular in the stage but also on small screen. These days, one can find a slew of magic shows on TV. I enjoy watching magic shows with my cable connection powered by Dish Network. The popularity of magic is evident from the fact that a plethora of TV shows and movies have been filmed on these lines and have been well received by the audience all over the world.

One magic show that I really loved watching as a teenager was ‘The Magic School Bus’. It was a very popular magic TV series that was aired on Saturday mornings. The 30-minute show, that was televised in the mid 90’s was an animated TV series that was supposedly derived from a popular book titled ‘The Magic School Bus’’. It was an amusing and exciting show. It entails brilliant little student’s present in a fun-filled classroom headed by a teacher named Valerie Frizzle. The teacher happens to own a magic school bus which virtually transformed itself into a slew of things like a spaceship, battery, an alligator and a lot more! The idea of transubstantiating magic stories to the small screen was well received by the audience and it helped children to “learn about science in a fun way”.

To conclude, I’d like to add how magicians perform their tricks is still a mystery in the minds of people all over the world. Nevertheless, magic is here to stay forever and the ingenious magicians will keep scaling up the standards of magic as technology advances.
