A simple mathematical definition of pyramid states that a pyramid is a solid object which has bases in the shape of a polygon, three sides of triangles that meet at the top hence a polyhedron. This is a square pyramid. Pyramids can also be a triangular pyramid and pentagonal pyramids and so on. In geometry, a pyramid is supposed to be a polyhedron which is formed by connecting to a base point called the apex. Each of the apexes form a triangle. In other words, it is a conic solid with polygonal base. The definition itself becomes so difficult to explain in one sentence and not easy to understand for a common man. When we say that the ancient Egyptians built pyramids, a thought just runs in our minds as to how these pyramids were built, where during those days when there was no education provided. We all know people were all illiterate during those times. Then, how did the rulers during those times do all those calculations to build such great structures.

As per the mathematical definition a majority of the pyramids went along with it. These pyramids were very huge and heavy. For many years these pyramids were the largest structures in the world. The largest pyramids are Red Pyramid from Dashur Necropolis and the Great Pyramid of Khufu. Both these pyramids were from Egypt. Today only the great pyramid of Khufu is still remaining. The full name of this pyramid is Khnum Khufu which means Khnum is his protection. There are a lot of stories about how these pyramids came into existence.

The base of the Khufu pyramid extended up to 230.37 meters and the original height of this was 146.6 meters. The angles of the slopes were ranging from 40 to 51 degrees. The whole pyramid was constructed with huge and more than two billion blocks made of limestone. These structures are so fascinating that it is still hard to believe that human hands could build such structures. The pyramids have entrance facing the north on the nineteenth layer of the pyramid. However, a core entrance has been dug in the shape of a tunnel for the visitors today.

The ancient Egyptian art involved many kinds of statues, reliefs, and funerary objects from the daily life of the people who lived in Rome. They are famous for two monumental and 3000-pound statues of the lion headed goddess, Sekhmet; sarcophagi; an intact mummy, images of the personalities and kings and their jewels. Some the statues are carved by the Egyptians are Rython with griffins, Bowl of Winged Griffins, Bust of the Ram Headed god, Chest with Writing, Dancing Male, Amulet of Horus the Child, amulet of the Pataikos on Crocodiles, Amulet, different types of Pendants of the Amulets, Amuletic Figure of the Duamutef, Son of Horus and so on.

I have Dish Network at home and I am interested in watching channels like the National Geographic channels which show some of these ancient cultures and their art. I still remember the program that I watched on TV that portrayed the pyramids of the ancient Egyptian civilizations. It spoke about the tombs fit for the kings. There were massive tombs built for the kings to shelter and for the part of a Pharaoh's soul that remained with his corpse. It is said that these tombs were carved out of bedrock and topped by flat-roofed structures called the mastabas. Mounds of dirt and mud had topped the structures. The pyramid shape of later tombs could have come from these mounds. More likely, Egyptian pyramids were modeled on a sacred, pointed stone called the benben.
