Various Forms of Sightseeing in Mallorca
Many tourists to Mallorca enjoy most of their time here on the beautiful beaches which are close to most hotels. Hence, there is no need for the visitors to travel very much during their holiday vacation on Mallorca if their primary purpose is to enjoy the fun in the sun on the beaches. However, the smart tourists would venture into the town and its surroundings where there are many great sights to behold.
Distinct sights
Palma de Mallorca offers a beautiful active port with a beautiful Bahía de Palma bay. The scenery is great and should be enjoyed on a bicycle. Another highly recommended excursion from Mallorca is the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range located at the North-East of the island. One would enjoy the picturesque Calvía village in a typical Mediterranean setting with the magnificent Romanesque-Gothic Iglesia Parroquial church as well as the 18th century Castillo de Bemdinat.
There are several quaint fishing villages against some outstanding natural landscapes such as Camp de Mar; a spectacular bay with a tiny island in the middle with a natural port that is tranquilly surrounded with pine woods. The coastal view is spectacular with many interesting monuments such as ancient churches and palaces which are popularly visited. There is a 16th century fortress with the Sa Trapa monastery ruins located nearby which makes the best excursion starting point on the island.
Road sights
Many of the beautiful sights can be viewed by roads in Mallorca. The N-710 highway may not be very wide but it is the best route from Andraitx where a coastal drive offers spectacular panorama of the Mediterranean Sea and beaches with many blooms of olives and almonds. The N-717 road leads one to Inca which is a well known shoe and textile production. It also has many impressive cathedrals and wine cellars. The Puig de Santa Magdalena Mountain offers spectacular panorama with fresh air and tranquility.
One can also reach Llucmajor to enjoy not only distinctive landscapes but also the famous Bahía de Pi. These fortifications were built against pirate attacks in the past. Many old town gates and walls which were built as defense mechanisms are still available. Felanitx offers a taste of the local production of wine which is quite renowned in the region.
Beach sights
There are many beautiful discoveries that can be made in and around Mallorca. One of them is the impressive natural caves in the midst of a subterranean lake. There are special showings of submarine fauna such as cacti and exotic feathered species on the island. More beautiful bays line the coast with quaint fishing villages that are still active.
