There is no point of discussing why the school has become one of the basic needs of our life. In the true sense, a school is made up of four walls inside which the future reside. The basic function of a school is to educate us and to pave the path towards the world of knowledge. Previously, education was only concentrated to the royal people. The underprivileged group was devoid of reaping the fruits of knowledge.

In some parts of the world, the women were not given the right of education; this actually suppressed their feelings and prevented them from taking any part in activities of the country welfare. But now, everyone has the right of getting education, whether the person is from a high economical class or low. In a country like India, the Government has realized well the importance of education for all and thus started programs like Adult Education Program, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and has also passed the Right to Education Act.

These programs and Acts have opened up the doors even to the poor section of the society to get the benefits of education. The Government has opened up new thousands of schools and higher educational institutes in the distant parts of the country. The opening of such institutes also created new employment opportunities to the local people of these places. As the school is the builder of tomorrow, its environment does play a vital role in the development process of a child. A positive classroom or school environment can nurture positive and productive attitudes among kids. There are many factors on which the environment and standards of a particular school depends.

Before admitting the child into a school, parents should do a good research on all these factors. The following tips may help the parents in getting a good school for their kids:-

• First thing is to look for a good school nearby your residence. In primary classes kids need more attention. In case of urgency, parents may easily reach their kids’ school if it is near

• It is the teachers who mold the character for change and also encourage them. So before choosing a school, find out the teacher-student ratio. If possible, observe the teaching style of the teachers and their way of communicate with the students

• The third important thing is to research the secure measures of the school well. Whether they have CCTV cameras, child friendly furniture and other basic security needs fulfilled or not

• Always remember to research well about the extracurricular activities that school has designed for the students. These activities are vital to the proper growth of a child

• Look out for the teaching methodologies that the school follows. Methodologies are the particular strategies that the school adopts for the proper knowledge building of the students.

Besides the physical aspect of the school, a positive learning environment is very much needed. It is up to the teacher to make the classroom or a school a safe place where nobody gets hurt and where there is mutual respect between students and between student and teacher.
