Online dating has changed a lot over the years. When the first dating sites were launched in the early 90s, online dating only appealed to a small group of people. For example, on these older dating sites you were asked to enter your vital statistics such as height, weight, age, as well as other facts about you like your education, income, social habits etc.

The problem with this approach is that online dating felt like online shoe shopping. For those dating in New York City, there was a feeling that online dating was too rigid and not at all romantic.

How has this changed? Today, for example, in the world of online dating, NYC boasts over a hundred online dating sites. Some of these sites retain the outdated approach of matching singles based on common vital statistics or social habits; however, many new ones take a creative approach. One new online dating site allow singles to see what other singles write, or see their artwork, photography, or other forms of self-expression. Another site lets singles choose a location where they would like to have a date, and the site finds another single who likes that location on the dating site. NYC isn’t the only city with a variety of dating sites to choose from; Today, most major cities and even many smaller cities offer a variety of sites.
