Music and Dance in Leeds

Leeds is distinctive in that it has both its own ballet company and an opera company. In addition, the Leeds music festival is one of the largest in the UK, but music fans will find that there is plenty more in the way of music available. The Leeds International Concert Season offers more than 200 different concerts every year, including the Opera in the Park which takes place in July. The Northern Ballet has its home in Leeds and there are also contemporary dance companies for those who prefer modern dance. Leeds has a variety of theatre venues for those who enjoy watching live theatre. The Howard Assembly Room and the West Yorkshire Playhouse are among some of the most popular venues. The West Yorkshire Playhouse is one of the largest production theatres in the country and tours of popular West End shows often make it to the city. Other options include the Carriageworks Theatre and the Leeds Grand Theatre & Opera House. The theatre scene in Leeds is continually growing and evolving, no matter what the preference of the potential audience, there will be a show to suit.
