Orangery the perfect home for Scottish kitchen extension

A kitchen extension in the form of an orangery proved the perfect match for a listed property in Edinburgh.

Apropos was proud to be involved in the sensitive, kitchen extension project for the four-bedroomed, ground floor period apartment in the Scottish capital – designing, creating and installing the kitchen extension’s aluminium windows, folding sliding doors and rooflight. The kitchen extension was part of a complete renovation project for the property, located in the beautiful Murrayfield district of the city.

Despite the grandeur of the original property, the kitchen extension complements and improves the magnificence of the apartment. The kitchen extension acts as a new home hub; providing a place for the homeowner to eat, relax, and entertain.

The use of an orangery rather than a conservatory was perfect in this instance. The orangery houses both the kitchen extension and a living room, yet merges seamlessly with the property, as if it has always been there. Inside, the high-quality, Shaker style kitchen extension adds to this feeling, whilst also allowing the kitchen extension to radiate warmth and beauty.

The kitchen extension receives an abundance of light via the bespoke aluminium windows, folding sliding doors and rooflight of the orangery. The folding sliding doors allow easy access from the kitchen extension into the beautiful garden, creating gorgeous views from the kitchen extension. A decked patio area allows the kitchen extension to become a wonderful place for entertaining guests when the folding sliding doors are opened to the fullest.

The rooflight and windows allows light to radiate into the kitchen extension from outside, bathing the kitchen extension in a lovely warm glow, even on the dullest of days.

And with structural U-values of 1.6 W/m²K and centre pane U-values of 1.1 W/m²K, Apropos windows, folding sliding doors and rooflight are exceptionally thermally and energy efficient - ensuring the kitchen extension stays snug and warm even in the coldest weather.
