Oahu boasts several large thrift stores in the Honolulu area. This is thrift gold right here folks!

In recent years, especially since the economic crash of 2008, The Salvation Army, Savers and GoodWill took a quantum leap from your average non-for-profit thrift chains that had regular clientele struggling to make ends meet, to the “go to” hot spots for cash conscious locals and now thrift minded visitors looking for fashion and the unique things that a place like Hawaii has tooffer. Oahu features 7, yes seven, GoodWill stores and 5 Salvation Army Thrift Shops, plus a plethora of smaller boutique style thrift and antique shops on North King Street like Mission Outlet, and that’s just on Oahu!

Most people don’t realize it but not only does thrifting keep money in your pocket, it also provides a paycheck for someone else. The latest trend is to buy those pieces you just can’t get anywhere else but at the Mall or other boutiques, and then do a little digging at a second hand store like Twice Blessed on Diamond Head Circle to find some great, hardly used clothes and other accessories, not to mention home furnishings, art and other collectibles as well.

Whether it’s a Savers’ bobble-headed hula girl for your dashboard, or that cute, yet totally affordable, couture designer clutch bag you just got at Paris Station or Pzazz on Waialea Ave. which will make you an absolute monument to fashion at the next party, you can find most anything from wonderful to wacky in Hawaiian thrift stores.
