Tree Trimming Austin

Two of the most common questions that are typically asked to a tree service are, what time of year is best for tree trimming and how much should be trimmed. While it is always best to use a professional tree service in Austin when trimming trees, we will discuss both these questions. First off we will talk about what time of year is best for tree trimming.

Really the best time to trim your trees would be in the winter months or right before the spring growth comes about with new wood. The reason for this is that most of the insects and diseases that tend to damage the trees are dormant during that time and won't cause problems. This is also good because when the spring growth does kick in all the cuts made will heal over faster.

When dealing with Oak trees and especially those suffering from Oak Wilt, another good time would be the summer months since the organisms that cause this problem are dormant in the summer months. While what we discussed are the best time of year to do any trimming, it is possible to do necessary trimming at any time of the year.

So the next question we need to address is what is the best way to trim your trees. Well we'll start of by addressing one of the most controversial issues when it comes to trimming a tree and that is how much to thin the tree. While it used to be recommended to thin up to 1/3rd of the tree, most trees have ended up having too much healthy green tissue from it and any one time. This can cause problems with the health of the tree and overall growth.

A much more conservative 10 to 15 percent is now what is commonly recommended because you want to leave some good healthy greenery in the tree. Most trees need to be addressed on an individual basis because there is a lot to take into account when trimming a tree.

The species of the tree combined with the overall health can have a lot to do with how much trimming the tree can handle. Quite a few trees in the Austin area may only need occasional dead wood and low lying limb removal. You can begin to see why hiring a tree trimming service is really the best bet to making sure your trees are cared for properly.
