Information about Different Types of Water Softener Systems
Different types of methods are used to soften hard water; among which four of these methods work towards eliminating or reducing lime scale. However, all of these have some advantages and disadvantages. The physical water softener systems try to eliminate or reduce the formation of lime scale through physical process by means of altering the various properties of hard water. These systems are of three types- electric, electrolytic and magnetic. The electrolytic devices are primarily in-line devices, which have to be plumbed into the water system. The measurement of end connector should be around 28 mm, 22 mm or 15 mm. The main thing is that it should suit pipe work.
In this system, two different metals are found that work as cathode and anode. Here copper acts as cathode and zinc works as anode in most cases. The electrolytic current flows from the cathode to the anode, which results in the melting of metal ions into the water. The best part of using this system is its pricing since electrolytic scale inhibitor it is very cheap. Moreover, lime scale is eliminated effectively making the water safe for cooking and consumption. However, there is a disadvantage of using this system as well. It is that one needs to replace the system on a periodic basis to enjoy higher satisfaction, which can be a costly affair.
There are two different forms of magnetic water softener. One can be camp onto the pipe work from outside and the other can be fitted in-line like the electrolytic softener system. The magnetic softener and electronic softener work in a similar fashion. The magnet softener uses magnetic field to alter the minerals’ characteristics that produce lime scale in the water. This is also a cost effective way to soften water, as it does not need electricity.
