Environmentally Friendly Detergent
We all saw it on the news, BP had a fire on a offshore platform in the gulf. Although deadly the fire was not the worst thing to happen from this unfortunate event. When the rig collapsed it snapped the pipe causing the most horrific oil spill ever recorded. It made the Exxon oil spill look like a droplet of water. This single event transformed and entire industry and showed us just how fragile our environment can be. The spill destroyed Cray fishing in the gulf and spoiled hundreds of miles of shoreline. The spill could be seen from high orbit and no one will truly know how many fish or animals it killed. During this ordeal I remember seeing commercials for dawn detergent and watching people use the dishwashing detergent to clean the oil off the birds. I was confused as Dawn was a detergent I used to clean my dishes, I did not seem like it is something that would be animal friendly. But simply put, the answer to how does Dawn dishwashing liquid help our environment, is that it is specially-developed to work in the environment.
To explain in Layman’s terms Dawn detergent is water soluble, meaning once you put it down the drain it will dissolve, effectively diminishing its impact on the environment as it leaves your house. After Dawn goes through the distillation plant there is no visible impact to our environment. This means no contamination of our water table, local animals or our very depleted ozone. This is great as a lot of dish soaps that are oil based do not break down to this same degree. This gives dawn a huge environmental edge over their competition. Also the company is very proactive within the environmental community. Dawn helps the environment through promotions which contribute a percentage of their profits to help animals in need. When you go into a store look for the Dawn dishwashing liquid bottles with little pictures of animals and you will see that a percentage of the profits from that bottle will be donated to help animals in need.
Why Does Dawn work on animals so well? The same reason it works in our kitchen, since dawn is water soluble it does not damage the animals feathers. This allows them to clean the animals without fear that the product will kill the already weakened bird It is also interesting to know that Dawn has a special mixture that they provide to animal rescue groups as it is even safer for the animals. In addition to not seriously harming the animals, Dawn does the job of removing oil from them. Having oil on their bodies is not good or healthy, and Dawn solves that problem effectively. Dawn causes minor eye irritation to these animals but, other then a small chance of the animal vomiting there is little to no side effects of using the product.
