Electric Strike- a consummate security system

If you look at a normal door, you'll see three major parts that keep it secure. The first part is the lockset. The lockset is categorized into several parts but the main 2 major parts are the handle and the latch. You can use the handle to open a door but the latch is the piece that sticks out the side of the door. This is the piece that actually keeps the door locked and retracts whenever the handle is reversed. The third part is the strike. The strike provides a hole for the latch to rest in.

The strike looks like a metal plate which has a hole inside it. When the latch comes down inside of the hole, it keeps the door from opening. The electric strike replaces this strike plate. When the electric strike is used, the side of the strike is cut out and has an attached piece of metal. The piece of metal cuts whenever the release system is activated. This allows you to open the door without opening the handle. So basically the electric strike has the same hole as the strike plate except that the electric strike depends on the side to allow the latch to move out and allow the door to open.

Some of the advantages of electric strikes as compared to other locks are as follows.

A door that donot have the lockset cannot use the electric door strike. Locksets may need to be exchanged to use an electric door strike. There are many different types of locksets with many dissimilar purposes. The correct function for an electric strike would be one that stays locked from the outside and has not type of lock/unlock button on the inside. Other types such as locks that have a lock/unlock button on the inside would defeat the purpose of the strike since.

If you want to use electric strike for your access control system, then you must buy a high profile door where the appearance is important as well as the door contains the maglock or you can go with a electric strike. If you want with higher security door where neither an access card nor a key will open, then you may skip maglock but if you go with electric strike it will be more secure for you.
