The Life Span of Hydraulic Systems
If one has to work with hydraulic system, one must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of its anatomy. Wrong handling of hydraulic machine may lower down its life drastically. One must also be familiar with the hydraulic system design for better working experience.
Reasons for a lowered life span:
• Hydraulic fluid contamination is the most common reason for the lowered life span or deterioration of a hydraulic system. Most often, the hydraulic fluid gets contaminated by unwanted elements and particles like metal dust, rubber particles, entrapped air and water, and so on. If the fluid is not filtered of the contaminants then it can lead to poor performance of the hydraulic system and finally, reduces the life rate of the hydraulic system.
• Regulating and controlling the temperature is another important aspect which determines the life span of the hydraulic systems. It is always advisable to keep the fluid operating temperature below sixty degree Celsius or 140 degree Fahrenheit. Although, these days most hydraulic systems come with heat changers and temperature regulators, still one must be careful about it.
Ways to enhance the longevity of the hydraulic systems
• Checking the clarity of the hydraulic fluid time to time can maximize the life of hydraulic system. One needs to check the fluid contaminants in the fluid and its composition.
• One can inspect the fluid by sampling it first and then analyzing it, it gives idea whether the fluid filter needs to be replaced or not. Analyzing it in this way will also give you a proper view of the viscosity of the hydraulic fluid as well as detect the presence of contaminants like foreign particles or water.
• The chemical composition of the fluid should also be checked to know whether it can still be used or not.
Thus, the life span of the hydraulic system is dependant on how you use and handle it.
