A usual saying is that, everyone likes to start their morning with a cup of coffee in one hand and a newspaper in the other. This is true for people who are eagerly waiting for that day's latest news. They will read newspaper, watch television or go through the internet edition to satisfy their hunger for news. Did you ever think or take some time to think about the people who are working behind this?

Journalists working to bring news to you range from the local beat newspaper reporter to the foreign correspondent and the magazine feature writer to the freelance book reviewer. Though we cannot pinpoint the qualities of a good journalist, the key criteria to judge a journalist is to check whether he is resourceful. Because creativity usually helps a journalist to find solutions in difficult situations though makeover news will get a negative response.

No one can underestimate the power of journalism. Hope everyone remembers the news that paved the way for former U.S President Richard Nixon towards his resignation in 1974. A report on the Watergate scandal in the Washington Post made people angry and this resulted in the indictment, trial and incarceration of about 43 people including Nixon's top administration officials. Though, each journalists form and style of writing and usage of techniques will be different, it's the content of the news and public opinion that counts. If his reputation among people as a news provider is good he will get more opportunities to showcase his skills and ideas.

According to a survey conducted by a private agency in the U.S, sixty-one percent of Americans update information by reading news on online websites. While fifty-four percent listen to any news programs on the radio, fifty percent reads a national or local print newspaper. So the opportunity to cover news and to make it reach to large audiences in forms like voice and visuals is tempting indeed. Though the main job of a journalist is to report news with accurate facts, people can select their area of interest. This will help them to get more creative ideas and opportunities. There are several genres of journalism and this includes advocacy, investigative, celebrity, fashion, sports, environmental, business and finance.

Advocacy journalism uses journalism techniques to promote a specific political or social cause. They are widely accepted as those people who protect the interest of the public, because they will bring stories related to political corruption, corporate business practices, social issues, and government policies. Meanwhile, investigative journalism reveals the truth behind a particular subject, person or event. Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein emerged as two of the most famous investigative journalists on the back of their investigation of the Watergate scandal. Those two reporters of the Washington Post still hold their fame as great media workers as they broke the biggest story in American politics.

Sports journalist deals with reporting the particular sports event, interviewing celebrity sport stars and giving their opinions and statistics related to particular sports. Meanwhile, environmental journalist prefers to cover issues related to the environment and its protection and conservation. As a journalist has to travel a lot to collect information, it is always advisable to secure his or her home using a proper security system provided by companies like ADT Home Security. When compared to earlier reporting styles, today's journalists use different styles of writing and this includes breaking news writing, short news writing, reviews, columns, feature writing etc. As usage of online news websites is increasing day by day, people will give their opinions, suggestions and feedback about the relevancy of news within no time. At the end of the day, it's the keen news sense and creativity which we put in to dynamic words can make a journalist special when compared to others.
