How to choose ATV Winches

By Subscribe to RSS | May 3rd 2012 | Views:

Got caught in a muddy position while driving your all-terrain vehicle (ATV)? You might want to get an ATV winch to save yourself from frustration and find yourself out of that sticky situation.

Tie the rope or cable to a strong foundation, like a tree or post, to anchor the vehicle, keep the winch motor running so it could effectively take your vehicle out of the mud. This is the way a winch works. This task could seem simple but it requires a great amount of work and force which ATV winches can easily offer with out a sweat.

You can find a lot of winches in the market from hydraulic ones to the electric types. But you must carefully check to ensure that the winch would not go beyond the rated line that indicates the maximum weight a winch can pull safely. It is also important that you know the size and weight of your vehicle. With a little use of mathematics, you will be able to calculate if the winch of your choice would be efficient for your ATV. You also needs to consider the size of your vehicle since it would have to be attached by a winch when pulling it out from the mud. The weight of the winch should also be kept in mind. It might be too heavy and may even hinder your ATV to perform in its fullest.

You also have to consider the line. There are winches made of steel cables that won't melt despite of too much heat while you will find those made of synthetic rope that are also strong but are not that dangerous. Every line has their own set of advantage and disadvantage and its up to your account on which line are you going to choose. However, there are some winches that may have both types of lines.

When choosing an ATV winch, keep your safety and its efficacy in mind to get the right one that suits your vehicle while serving its main purpose.
