As well as discounts on wine and other drinks, a visit to The Calais Wine Superstore can include free daily wine tastings and browsing a comprehensive range of wine books and accessories.

And, of course, there's also the fact that the rest of France is on the doorstep. The Calais Wine Superstore is the perfect place to start or finish a trip on the Continent.

The Calais Wine Superstore offers a special Wedding Service, giving you the opportunity to make pleasant savings on wine and champagne for your special day. How much wine and beer can one buy?

As much as one likes, provided it is for personal use only. If you buy more than 120 bottles of wine or 250 cans of beer Customs and Excise may ask you to verify the intended usage. Personal use can include weddings, parties and gifts.

How much can a car carry?

A family saloon can carry 30 cases x 6 bottles (180 bottles, 210kg) of wine. Please check the car's load capacity if in any doubt.

Can one order before travelling?

The Calais Wine Superstore is very happy to take orders in advance by phone or online and have it ready for collection and payment in France. Actually, this is the best way to shop as the store pays for ferry and Eurotunnel tickets.

Why is it cheaper to buy wine and beer in France?

The UK government puts a minimum of £1.80 tax on every bottle of wine and £2.30 on every bottle of sparkling wine. This saving is passed on to customers and makes a huge difference in volume purchases.

How much can one save?

A little more than the duty difference - at least £2.50 to £3 a bottle and quite often more.

Does the Calais Wine Superstore have wine tastings?

The Calais Wine Superstore thinks it’s important for visitors to have the opportunity to try exciting new wines. Every day they offer some of their special offer wines for tasting, but if you are interested in a particular wine, they will be happy to open a bottle for you (within reason!) to try before you buy.

Do they speak English?

The Calais Wine Superstore team speaks English fluently. We are on hand to help you with any questions or queries you might have.

How does one pay?

To avoid paying UK tax on wine and beer you have to pay for and collect your goods in France. The Calais Wine Superstore accepts Sterling and Euro cash, sterling cheques and credit cards. If you pay by credit card your transaction is converted at the daily rate. So it is advisable to pay in Sterling by cheque or by cash to pay the advertised price. This way there’s no nasty surprises when you get a low exchange rate from your bank! Don’t worry if this sounds confusing. The store staff can explain and outline which is the best way to pay on the day.

What if you want a refund?

The Calais Wine Superstore will refund money or exchange any product bought from them if it is brought back undamaged.
