VoIP might be a new word for some and a well known word for the others. But still, let me introduce VoIP to those who don’t know much about VoIP. VoIP [Voice Over Internet Protocol], is basically a communication method which requires internet connection. VoIP is also known as internet telephony. When computers are connected with the world through internet connection then only the calls or communication can be possible. It works on a very simple principle that through which it takes an analog audio signal and convert them into digital data, the computer understandable language, and then transfer this over the web to the listener’s computer. This technology is being extensively used by the whole world and now days, more and more people are switching their long distance calling service from the traditional phone call system to the VoIP phone service, as it provides high quality and cost effective long distance calling with 24/7 availability. In fact, it also allows you to make free phone calls with the use of your internet connection.

Now there are many providers that are offering the VoIP service. Even some of the traditional phone companies after realizing the future growth of their business, develops their network across the United States. This VoIP technology spreads all over the world where the internet connection can reach. Although VoIP technology has been around the world for a while, but not all the carriers are put in use. Among all Vonage is the one of the provider that use maximum and have continuously growing a percentage of individuals on their plans. The reason behind this growth is that this is an affordable way to make long distance phone calls.

Now, what do you need to do to make a phone call over VoIP? There are several ways to make a phone call by using VoIP. Some of them are described as follows:

1.) ATA

ATA or analog telephone adaptor is the first and the most common method of using VoIP. ATA allows you to communicate through VoIP internet telephony by plugging it into the computer. This works well and is very simple to use. Also there is software to install and configure your system like the other programs and you will be ready to use it over.

2.) IP phones

Another way of using VoIP phone service is through IP phones or VoIP Phones. These phones looks like the traditional phones but are different in construction. IP phones will connect to the system by using a connector named RJ-45 Ethernet. This is the way that they can easily plug in your router.

3.) Computer to computer

This is the simplest method for using VoIP internet telephony. In this method, you need to install the VoIP software in both the computers to make it possible to communicate. VoIP softwares are normally available free on the internet. The other things that you require to communicate are a sound card, a headset and the internet connection. The most common example of VoIP is Skype which is available absolutely free of cost.

VoIP is very easy to use, easy to available, easy to operate and very cost-effective. One can cut 80-90% cost on their monthly telephone bills by using VoIP internet telephone service.
