Tenerife is one of the famous Islands in the area of Canary. According to some historical sources, almost three million years before, three islands were located in the mountain areas of Valle Lorenzo, Teno and Anaga. During the process of great Volcanic pressures this mountainous area and the main old Volcano melted and converted into the island called Tenerife, today.

Las Canadas is the name of the craters which evolved during the process of development of Tenerife, as during the melting of volcano, the top of it did not bust rather it collapsed and is known to be among the biggest craters of the world, today.

Almost five million years before the last step of the activity in volcano took place in Tenerife and during the activity the old top of volcano erupted.

According to historical literature, the first native on this island were known to be brave and fearless. These natives preserved their deceased in the caves in the form of mummies. Later on, Guanches lived on this island for several years. According to some researchers, this island had no links with any other nearest islands as the people were not aware about the sea crafts.

Almost five hundred years before, the famous conqueror from Spain Fernandez Lugo reached at the Anaza bay which is named as Santa Cruz, today. Later, Bencomo King also reached at this place and he assembled all his soldiers and sends them to Ancentejo bay. Two thousand citizens of Spanish King fell and Lugo himself got some serious wounds in 1494 and this is the reason that the town is now called as La Matanza which means “Slaughter Place”. But, soon in 1495, the Spanish King finally occupied the Tenerife Island.

For many years, it was not allowed for the nation to show and celebrate the cultural values by Franco but then after the Renaissance, people got the freedom of expression. Now the people proudly talks about their culture and surnames.

In 1496, Lugo took the decision of constructing San Laguna Metropolis which was located at a distance of 7 km from Anaza bay. This was the first metropolis in the city without any city walls. During 1723, the harbor of the city was changed to Santa Cruz.

Tenerife has a Museum in which you can find the historical footprints of the previous years. This museum is located at a well decorated villa and contains a great variety of artistic work of the famous artist Lercaro, who was awarded with Noble Prize for his excellent work.
