Alitalia Airlines is Italy’s major airline company, reorganized and restructured as Alitalia CAI, standing for Alitalia – Compagnia Aerea Italana, meaning Alitalia- the Italian Airline Company, the primary name Alitalia itself signifying Wings of Italy, has its main hub at Rome’s Leorno Da Vinci Fumicino Airport, operating a fleet of 152 numbers and connecting 86 destinations at 41 countries and Air France KLM has recently acquired 25% of its shares with an intention of buying more shares by 2013, when both the airline companies will become one entity.

Alitalia Airlines’ subsidiary Air One operates as a low fare airline from the hub at Milan Malpensa Airport, concentrating on short haul routes, with 10 Air bus A320 aircrafts Alitalia hopes to energise the operation by carrying 3 million passengers by 2012 of which 2.4 million to be carried through Air One route.
