Sorrento, located in the Napoli region of Italy, is considered by many as the jewel of Italy’s coast. With a number of joyous views and the chance to take a boating adventure to the Isle of Capri, Sorrento is the perfect destination for large groups of friends and families or private parties just for two. Sorrento tends to be less hectic than more popular tourist locations such as Venice, Florence and Rome, but still offers the same guest minded hospitality that you might be looking for on your fantastic European holiday.

The Piazza Tasso is one of the city’s main tourist attractions and as such has a number of fine dining and shopping places available for all tastes and preferences. If you are looking for cheap Sorrento hotels, this may not be the best location as the Piazza Tasso is right off of the Bay of Napoli coast in the heart of the trendy business and shopping district. Busy roads and a myriad of four to five story high buildings decadent with grilled balconies and stone statues make this a lovely place for you and your loved ones to take a gentle stroll. Sorrento also prides itself on its international influence. With a wide array of global flags displayed for your viewing pleasure, one truly feels as though they have stumbled upon a truly unique Italian slash international treasure. During the holidays, particularly Christmas, this location lights up with displayed electrical showcases and twinkle light lit buildings helping you guide your way and get your bearing.

If you have had enough walking around for the day, then head to one of the many fine-dining locations that Sorrento’s St. Antonio Square has to offer. The smells and taste of fresh mozzarella, rich olive oils and comforting gnocchi take over the senses here where food is all about pleasure and decadence. One restaurant quite commonly recommended in this is La Basilica. Though the restaurant itself does not resemble a church or a large, rotund dome for that matter, the food will make you feel as though you have died and gone to heaven. Some might call the restaurant a pizzeria rather than a formal dining place, as the atmosphere is rather relaxed compared to some of its pricier neighbors. Should you choose to go, it may be best to avoid the lunch rush hour, as it is a favourite location for business people during their lunch hour for the simple reason that it is affordable as well as convenient. Like may restaurants on the Sorrento coast, La Basilica specializes in seafood dishes as well as offers a fine array of refreshing wines to compliment your meal fully. Also, if you have a special day or night planned during a holiday or weekend, you may want to call ahead of time as the restaurant is often booked out by large parties throwing a banquet or wedding ceremony.

Another favourite restaurant in the area is L’Abate Restaurant Pizzeria. This is in the heart of the old city and as such is the perfect place to take a stroll before or after your lunch. Dine in comfort sipping a citrus wine whilst enjoying your view of people walking by wearing their excellent Italian fashion. There are also plenty of souvenir shops in this location, so be sure to make some time for shopping whether it’s for you or as a gift for someone who was sadly left at home. If you are looking to stay closer the main part of the Piazza Tasso, then try Caruso Restaurant. Risotto is the specialty dish here as well as an abundance of seafood including fresh lobster, salmon and even sea bass.
