While it is primarily a Hindu tradition, any Kuala Lumpur accommodation with even the most remote ties to Hinduism, will be offering up prayers of thanksgiving, and performing the cleansing rituals necessary to remove the bad energy of the previous year, allowing room for new and positive energy to flow through the lives and buildings of everyone around.

It is five days which fills all the hotels Kuala Lumpur has available at this time, and is generally held between mid-October and mid-November, depending upon the lunar calendar. In 2010, it will fall on November 5th, with every Kuala Lumpur accommodation throughout the city focused on showcasing some element of the traditional festival.

In addition to the spring cleaning of homes and lives during Deepavali, it is also common for Hindus to add various decorative designs made of coloured rice throughout homes. Oil lamps are strategically lit and placed around the porch and balcony, and on the actual day of Deepavali many Hindus take a bath in oil before heading to the temple for prayers and ceremonial rites. Each and every Kuala Lumpur accommodation in the city will be celebrating the festival, with a variety of Indian delicacies such as rice pudding, murukku and sweetmeats. This is one of the most important festivals in the Hindu faith, and is a major festival in Kuala Lumpur every year.
