Casablanca Things to Do - the Hassan II Mosque
Casablanca is the world famous Moroccan city located on the side of the Atlantic Ocean. The city was popularised in the black and white film of the same name, starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Nowadays, it is a popular tourist attraction. Tourists visit Casablanca for its relatively temperate climate, its stunning architecture, its rich history and because it is easily reached from many Western European countries.
Once you have arrived in Casablanca, one of the most advisable things to do is visit the Hassan II Mosque. The Hassan II Mosque is the largest in Morocco and the fifth largest globally. It is in the same class of mosques as the Masjid al-Haram of Mecca and the Al-Masjid al-Nabawi mosque in Medina.
The Hassan II Mosque looks out over the ocean, and has enough room for nearly 30,000 worshippers. It is also home to a stunning excellent minaret, standing some 200 metres tall, making it the tallest in the world. Unusually, and stunningly, the Hassan II Mosque is actually built to directly cover the sea. The sea can be seen in many parts of the Mosque, as inspired by the verses from the Qa’ran that state ‘the throne of God is built on water’.
Non-Muslim visitors to the Hassan II Mosque can visit during designated times. There are guided tours at several times during the day. There are various cheap Casablanca hotels to choose from at DirectRooms. Once you have chosen a suitable one, you can plan the rest of your visit.
