India has almost everything a tourist may expect. With splendid natural grandeurs, historical sites, cultural beauties and rich flora & fauna, this beautiful country has been one of the top tourist destinations around the world. India boasts all types of tourism that proves it the perfect destination for vacationers. From religious to adventure, ecological to cultural, and yoga & meditation to eco tourism, India has seen a rapid growth in almost all segments of tourism. But what India is most renowned for are its religious tourism and eco-tourism, which are perhaps the biggest sources to generate foreign exchange and yield employment in the country. Let us have a brief explanation on these most important tourism segments.

Religious or Pilgrimage tourism

India is a land of spirituality. Right from the Kashmir to Kanyakumari, this country is venerated as a sacred land. There is hardly any village in India that has no temple, mosque or church. The holy epics like the Geeta, Kuran, and Bible are still an adornment of its households. In fact, spirituality and devoutness is the lifeblood of India that passes through every Indian in different form. When it comes to the pilgrimage centers in India, there is an endless list of destinations, which have their own stories and spiritual significance.

However, some most popular destinations among them are Veshno Devi in Jammu, Haridwar in Uttarakhand, Salasar and Ajmer in Rajasthan, Tirupati in Tamil Nadu and Puri in Orissa. These pilgrimage destinations attract millions of devotees, and contribute a lot in strengthening the state’s overall economy. As the demand for religious tours is constantly increasing, numerous travel companies provide tour packages to these destinations. Tour packages like Tirupati package, Veshno Devi package let the tourists enjoy a comfortable and hassle-free journey to these destinations.

Eco-tourism

Ecotourism can be defined as the sustainable conservation of the areas which have been endowed with natural beauty, while ensuring not to scathe the ecological balance. It’s in fact an environmentally responsible travel to the undisturbed natural regions, to explore and appreciate nature, and, at the same time, safeguarding the integrity of ecosystem. India is putting a strong emphasis on this concept, and almost all the regions that feature natural treasures have adopted a policy to promote it. Places like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Himalayan regions and Andaman & Nicobar Island are famous destinations where travelers can participate in the eco tourism activities. Some special name in this category is Ooty tour and Andaman tour which invite the tourists to explore some of the untainted natural treasures.

An opportunity to explore clean and untouched beaches, verdant green forests and mystic waterways, Andaman travel seems an eco-tourist’s dream comes true. The island also provides great opportunities to the adventure seekers. Similarly Ooty tour offers the travelers with a unique sense of serenity and breathtaking scenic views. Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim are also the perfect selections for the tourists who love eco-tourism. Travel industries of these states are continuously trying to promote this concept. To attract more tourists, they are providing quality infrastructure and good lodging facilities.
