Estepona has a great historical and cultural background as there are a number of monuments in the area which are worth visiting. Some of the best monuments in the area are:

Tower Torre Del Reloj:

This tower is among the monuments of 15th century. This tower is the left over of a cathedral which was constructed in 1472 by the orders of Enrique IV. This church was constructed on the minarets of a Muslim mosque which was constructed during the Arab’s rule. This tower is located in the famous square of the old city where number of bands conducts musical concerts at different seasons of the year.

Ermita Del Calvario:

This is a small Hermitage which was constructed during the 19th century, the front side of the monument is simple and great with a tower which is the only part left in its original shape. According to some historical findings, this church was built during 1818 because of the bells style and presence of the square in the church. This place was originally used by those patients who had diseases which can spread so they were sent to live here separated from the town. But, at the end of 19th century, this place was converted into the religious place.

Plaza de Toros:

This plaza was opened during 1972 and the building was designed by the famous architect “Juan de Mora”, who was awarded with the National Award in the field of Architecture in the same year. This plaza is one of those two towers in the whole world which are designed in elliptical and asymmetrical style. The other plaza is in Mexico. This place is used for musical concerts and folklore purposes.

Church Iglesia de Los Remedios:

This church has a legendry origin as according to the historical facts this church is located on a place which was once a pine forest in 1400. Later on the residents of the town found crucifix in the place and they attributed this with the 1st Christians as they were the first who lived during the Muslim era in the area.

They built the hermitage in the same place where the crucifix was found and this place was given the name “Christ of Veracruz” and they gave this same name to the neighborhood area.

Later on near this hermitage, a hospice of Holy Ana was found and during 1725 to 1766, it was known as the Convent of San Francisco.
