Quaint Offerings of El Rompido
El Rompido is situated in Huelva under the Cartaya municipality. Its great attraction is its beach with its fishing village at River Piedras. With the growing tourists annually, the little fishing village grew to become a popular beach resort that is frequented by families and groups.
Attractions
There are many other great attractions in El Rompido besides the beaches. The National reserved park covers over 2530 hectares between Piedras and Atlantic Ocean although most of it is swamp land. But even the swamp land is home to many marine life and bird species which gives nature lovers and bird watchers a good value for their money.
El Rompido’s beach stretch of 12 kilometers is known as the “La Flecha” or arrow of fine sand along the coast. It is considered a most unique geomorphologic Spanish jewel with over 200 years of alluvial sediments which the waves and wind brought on. The interesting note about La Flecha is that its space is expanding at an amazing rate of 40 meters annually.
It enjoys the thousands of tourists every year who come for some piece of action in the sun with the beautiful sunshine and warm weathers from the Mediterranean Sea. Many types of water sports can be enjoyed leisurely here with needful amenities available and in good condition.
Accessibility
La Flecha is a very popular beach resort spot for a holiday vacation as it can be accessed by boat from Nuevo Portil, a rich peninsula of wide flora and fauna offering. Besides the fun in the sun, many exotic animals can be viewed if one takes the time to roam and enjoy the scenic offering of the rich reserves. Here, one can sight the shy European chameleon that is only available in Malaga province, the Portuguese Algarve or at Costa de Luz.
Many nature lovers and environmentalists may prefer to bask in the sun at Nueva Umbria which is a nudist beach 124 miles from Isle of La Antilla.
The town offers a sports club, marina and two golf courses of 18 and 36 holes respectively.
Visitors can also view an ancient Arab fortress, the San Miguel castle where interesting archaeological findings during the Bronze Age can be found.
This is the perfect family holiday spot as there are several amusement parks which will satisfy the children.
Gastronomic offerings
Fresh seafood is in abundance with the waters teeming with plenty of catches. El Rompido offer many types of fresh shells such as almejas, coquinas and chirlas. Crayfish from Piedras River can be caught and served in delectable ways.
