Girona is Costa Brava’s capital and is on the north of Barcelona and several kilometers from France. The city was founded by Romans and is mainly a historic area making it ideal for a holiday. This historic center has thick walls surrounding it and the treasures are well conserved. There are lots of hot spots and monuments which are worth visiting while in the capital.

Santa Maria Cathedral: the beautiful cathedral construction was undertaken between 11th and 18th century. The baroque façade is the most interesting and has elements of Renaissance, gothic and Romanesque. This is a major attraction in the city and is definitely worth visiting.

Pia Almoina and Casa Pastors: the two buildings are quite striking with the latter being the justice palace of Renaissance and the former is a 14th century gothic building which hosts the architects chambers today. The buildings are quite beautiful and they serve as major attraction in Girona hence worth checking out.

Juderia: this is another place worth visiting on your visit to Girona. It is a former quarter for the Jewish and the most interesting things about it are the narrow alleys of the medieval times. You will enjoy the old but beautiful quarter.

The Moorish Bathes: these Romanesque style bathes are a major attraction here and people come from across the world to have a look. Built back in 1194 imitating Moorish installations of the early times, the bathes are still in good condition even though they were used till the 15th century. They have an interesting architectural design and are definitely worth checking out while in Girona.

River Onar: the most striking thing about this river in Girona is the four bridges linking the two river banks Barrio de Mercadal on the left and Barrio Viejo on the right. Among the four linking bridges are a stone bridge and an iron bridge creating a beautiful contrast by the river. The two are the most magnificent of the four and they have given fame to the river hence tourists flock here while on their Girona tour. Still around the River Onar are multicolored houses which have a great look since they look as though they were hanging right above the bank of the river. The Casas del Onar are quite attractive and beautiful in their own way and are worth checking out as a characteristic area in Girona.
