Hot Springs: Heal Your Body, Mind and Soul

By Shanae Buckner Subscribe to RSS | March 7th 2012 | Views:

Pools of groundwater with temperatures higher than the human body’s are called hot springs. There are geothermal springs that are categorized according to heat levels. Geothermal springs are often categorized based on their temperature. Nonetheless, only the springs with temperatures greater than 98.6°F (37°C) are categorized as “hot springs.” These hot springs are notable for their health advantages. Many people see these health claims as being relatively miraculous; if you would rather see solid evidence for these allegations, here are some facts.

As most individuals know these days, exercising raises body temperature, quickens the heart rate, and accelerates blood flow. Some people cannot perform laborious physical activites anymore because of age or illnesses. However, the high temperature of hot springs helps increase body temperatures and opens blood vessels to an extent similar to what happens when exercising. The heart becomes more active, stimulating blood circulation, which more effectively brings nutrients and hormones to various parts of the body, improving a person’s health and mood in the process.

The water of the hot springs itself may have electrolytes, the primary ions of elements that naturally occur in the earth. These ions are carried away with the water as it vaults from the ground. Pottasium, calcium, sodium, chloride, and magnesium are some of the naturally occurring elements contained in hot springs. The body can be hydrated and nerve and muscle activity can be improved with the electrolytes of these elements. Sodium can improve the lymphatic system while magnesium can cleanse the body.

Some hot springs are also said to contain lithium, an alkali metal found in brine and clay. Lithium naturally happens in the Earth in ion form; lithium ions are used in pharmaceutics for mood-soothing medications. This could be why a lot of people feel most at ease when soaking in hot springs.

Sulfur is a substance that is typically located in volcanic areas. Sulfur is a trace element that is important in biochemical processes. Sulfuric acids may be present in any hot spring Utah guests soak in. Sulfur in hot springs is known to enhance respiratory and digestive processes.

Utah bed and breakfast accommodations are happy to inform vacationers that soaking in hot springs can also strengthen the muscles and bones. This is something that older tourists like. This can ease tension from the muscles, promoting mental ease and relaxation.

Vacationers who come to Utah bed and breakfasts would be happy to know that the establishments are furnished with their own comfy facilities for those who may be cautioned from hot springs. Pregnant women and hypertensive folk may experience adverse effects from the high temperatures. These people should bathe in warm rather than hot springs.
