Agra has found its mention within the legendary Hindu epic Mahabharat as the forest of Agraban close to Mathura. Badal Singh instituted the town in 1475. Sikandar Lodhi developed Agra as his capital city. Later, Babur overpowered the Lodhis to acquire the city situated on the banks of River Yamuna and thus, the long relationship of Mughals with Agra began.

Mughal love of buildings translated into beautiful monuments such as Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Sikandra. The very glory of Agra was at its zenith in the course of the reign of Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. Akbar made it the center of art, culture, commerce and education and Shah Jahan discovered it in full bloom.

As a matter of fact, it is said that it was Akbar who laid the foundation of the modern city that we see now in 1558 and was often known as Akbarabad. Most of the historical structures belong to the time period between mid-16th century and 17th century and were actually of high quality. These monuments were built in the modern-day Mughal style. Mughlai delicacies and the proficient craftsmen can still be seen in the narrow lanes of the city as a reminiscent of the lost times.Agra is a city on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India, 363 kilometres west of state capital, Lucknow and 200 kilometers south from national capital New Delhi. It is one of the most populous cities in Uttar Pradesh and the 19th most populous in India. Because 80 percent of the city's drainage flows into Yamuna River, it is 20th most contaminated city in India. Agra can also refer to the administrative region that has its headquarters in Agra city.

Delhi and NCR, being a central hub for IT and ITES professionals in India, demand a robust bus service that can cater to the needs of people coming not only from Agra but also from other parts of the country. Incidentally, Delhi to Agra bus route is highly interesting, offering visual delight through the way of wonderful natural sceneries. Agra is at a distance of about 250 kilometers from Delhi and can be easily reached by public or private buses in just 3-4 hours.
