Buzzing and vibrant Merchant City is the cultural centre of Glasgow and is a work in progress; a harmonious meeting of old and new. Undisputedly, this northern city has the best shopping in the UK, besides the West End in London. The Style Mile, Buchanan Street and Argyll Arcade are just a few of the havens on offer for expert shoppers.

Satisfying your cultural side, Glasgow offers more than 20 museums and galleries, mostly with free admission. To name but a few, the Gallery of Modern Art, The Lighthouse and the internationally-renowned Kelvingrove are all must-sees on your itinerary. Time your trip to coincide with an event or two on Glasgow’s calendar of annual festivals, and perhaps think ahead to the 2014 Commonwealth Games that this vibrant place will be hosting.

As for eating out, well the options are so numerous, you would have to spend more than one weekend there to appreciate the variety on offer: from steakhouses to Mongolian, Italian, French, Indian and Spanish fare. You can settle for true Scottish fare like Haggis or black pudding or indulge your palette at some of the top international restaurants.

If you are looking for a Glasgow hotel, rooms come in all types, from trendy boutique-designs with award-winning architecture to family-run guesthouses. Glasgow’s official tourist board offers a good range of hotels from low budget to 5 star luxury accommodations: city centre, romantic country retreats and everything in between included.

Nightlife in Glasgow offers pubs, comedy clubs and all the razzle-dazzle expected of the third most populated centre in the UK and the biggest city in Scotland. You can go for a night out that may range from quiet cocktails in a trendy blues bar or even hit the larger pubs and clubs for a real celebration Glasgow style.

To encourage residents and visitors to enjoy seasonal activities, the city provides you with 57 Local Parks, 12 District Parks, 5 City Parks, 6 Principal Civic Spaces, an Indoor International Sports Arena 4 Golf Courses, 10 Indoor Sports Centres and 31 Libraries.

Transport around this metropolis offer options such as the M8 motorway, which runs right to the centre of the city with car parks all around. For those of you with more time on your hands, Glasgow has a cycle network from Loch Lomond into the city and buses from Buchanan Street come and go to most of the UK. Walking is also great, albeit with some steep gradients. The subway has 15 stations with 2 mainline terminals, Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street. There are also 2 main airports to service this exciting Scottish destination.
