What is an the Working of an Electromagnet

By Chris Adam Subscribe to RSS | March 16th 2012 | Views:

It is a magnet that gets its power because of electricity. The electricity can generate from the direct current or the battery and it needs to be transferred to a metal that has some magnetic power just like iron. Iron itself has some magnetic properties of its own which are not visible in general condition. This is because the small magnets in the iron bar stays in random direction and they cancel the magnetic fields of each other. But when current in penetrated in the iron through another magnetic field, then the random magnets align in a single direction. It creates a magnetic field that is quite powerful and we have our Electromagnetelectromagnets.

Electromagnets can be of different size and power and they are used according to their specifications. It is basically a coil of copper wire with iron in its core. The magnetic field is dependent on the iron used in it and the power that passes through it. It is relatively easy to make it but there are proper guidance needed if you need to change the power. This is used in most of the electrical and electronic device like motors, generators, television, MRI machines, computer hard disks and many more. The magnetic field is created when it comes to the contact of electricity. The easiest example is the door bell. When you press the bell the small electromagnet in it pulls a metal clapper which is responsible for the ringing of the bell. As the pressure is taken away the connection gets disrupted.

There are many companies making customized Electromagnetelectromagnets which are used in different machinery. Many of them sale them wholesale. While making a selection it is important that you get a proper idea about the material used in it and the power of the magnet in question.
