Reasons to Get IP Cameras for Remove Surveillance

By Fernando Severns Subscribe to RSS | May 14th 2012 | Views:

If you're considering surveillance equipment to safeguard your inventory or your warehouse, there are various options in the market. There is the traditional analog camera, closed-circuit TV (CCTV) camera, and the more recent internet protocol (IP) camera. You may see a growing trend towards the third option over the first two more familiar ones. Below are some reasons why IP cameras are growing in popularity.

Traditional surveillance camera systems require more devices, servicing, and especially wires, usually connecting to separate digital video recorders (DVRs). IP cameras are wireless "plug and play" devices, requiring only power and a computer network. Even security equipment providers can attest to the ease of simply "sticking" IP cameras throughout a client's premises, then linking up to a computer system without installing wires around them. The less equipment, the fewer things can break.

CCTVs or analog cameras and their monitoring equipment typically consume electricity to function like any other appliance. Those integrated with DVRs tend to draw more wattage and usually can't be turned off. IP cameras, particularly the more recent ones, use considerably less power than the other two.

Resolution here refers to the clarity of image on a surveillance camera. The higher the resolution is, the clearer the image. CCTV cameras have limited resolution, most of which can't give the now-standard megapixel variety. IP cameras can offer that clarity, some of which even go past three or more times the megapixel resolution for clearer image or video capturing.

Analog and CCTV cameras typically "feed" their videos into one localized place filled with monitors and personnel watching them. IP cameras can be seen in any computer or laptop connected to the network for remote video monitoring anywhere, even on cell phones. IP cameras also mostly come with built-in analytical software to analyze the video, eliminating the need to purchase additional software to do the same thing.

Unlike CCTV, IP video systems can easily be integrated with other devices like alarm systems. They can also be hooked up to environmental or access controls to maintain a presence virtually everywhere. Even better, they're practically compatible across different manufacturers of remote video surveillance equipment.

All in all, IP cameras are a better option for remote video monitoring. Start searching for the best dealers around who can install your IP cameras and lend you competent support. Read more about them at and,,
