Most of the modern day computers come with at least a couple of USB sockets. However, with the number of electronic gadgets always on the rise, one can easily run out these sockets pretty quickly. Say, if your computer uses usb technology for running every hardware including printer, mouse, keyword, webcam, microphone and others, the one big question that is obvious to spring in your mind right at once is “How am I going to connect all my devices together to let the computer function as an unit?”

The cheapest and most effective solution to this problem comes in the form of an usb hub that is highly versatile and capable of supporting as high as 127 electronic devices that includes all the electronic gadgets that most people use in their day to day lives including players, cameras, mobiles, iPods and many more.

Hubs generally have four ports but are capable of housing many more if required. It can be plugged into a computer and devices can then be plugged on to it. By chaining together, dozens of ports can effectively be built on a single computer which is commonly done by people who need a larger number of electronic gadgets to function simultaneously at their residence or work place.

These usb hub can both be powered or unpowered. Analogically, its way of operating can be compared to that of the moon. Just as the moon do not have any light of its own and is lightened by the sun, these devices draws the charge required for its functioning from the device on to which it is connected, which happens to be the computer in most cases. Generally, they get charged from around 500-900mA power coming out of the computer. They have their own transformers thereby minimizing changes of overloading the supply of the computer.
