Using SkyCaddie to Improve Your Game

By Parkins Radnor Subscribe to RSS | December 6th 2011 | Views:

Every golfer worth his salt knows about SkyCaddie. It works on the basis of GPS or Global Positioning System and gives you your location to a yard of your current position. On the golf course you will need to program several points into it such as the location of the middle of the green etc. It will then tell you how far away from it you are. The SkyCaddie is about as big as a cell phone, is black and has a small antenna. It comes with a convenient belt clip

Once you have your SkyCaddie with you, you will need to register yourself at to be able to activate your device. Use a serial port to plug in your SkyCaddie and download the necessary software. The process is not long and you should be done in a few minutes. One important factor for the working of your SkyCaddie is that the golf courses you play on will have to have GPS information for them. With this you will be able to get information on the front, the back and the center of the green.

In these terms, courses can be of 4 different kinds. A SkyPro course is one where you will get the whole gamut of information on yardage, hazards and even more. The IntelliGreen option included means that your picture of the green will keep changing and you approach. The SkyPlayer course is where you will have to fill in some of the blanks yourself. And if the course is not listed, then you are out of luck.

Now if you are a regular player you might consider taking on a SkyPlayer membership. This will allow you to store all your GPS information on all the courses you play at in a SkyVault. This means that you will have complete access to all SkyCourses, related IntelliGreen graphics if any and for storage, a SkyVault. There are a number of plans that you can choose from.

Using your SkyCaddie is quite simple. As you are playing, pause a while at the center, the front as well as the back of each green. Press record and the device will pinpoint your location and save it. It takes all of five seconds. When the location is stored, you can move on to the next hole. Once you are done, every successful game you play will be easier. You often end up leaving the rest of your group way behind.
