Some Useful Hog Hunting Tips and Strategies

By James Blee Subscribe to RSS | February 23rd 2012 | Views:

People might well try hunting boars and hogs for a number of purposes. While some might be looking to hunt for meat, some others might be looking for the tusks or hides of the animal, whereas some others might just be focused on experiencing the thrill of some real time trapping experience. Whatever be the purpose, here are a list of few effective hog hunting tips following which, the trapping experience is expected to get a lot more simpler and enjoyable at the same time.

One of the simplest ways of trapping boars and hogs is by using canine dogs. Most often, two dogs are used at tandem. A catching dog is used to pin down the animal whereas a bay puppy is used to chase the boar and distract it from the herd so that the catching dog can get hold of it. Finally, the shooter can gun the animal down by a simple shot of a bullet. Generally, breeds like the foxhounds mastiffs are used for these purposes.

Another technique involves using horses for the purpose. It is one of the oldest and traditional hunting techniques where riders in horses will trap the boar, surround the animal and start shooting using a special boar spear. This technique is practiced till today with the only change being the replacement of the older spears with modern weapons and guns.

Hog hunting might sound cruel and threatening to wildlife but it is practiced in many countries as a step to control boar and hog population. In places with a dense population of hogs, it leads to an impending effect on the cattle and farming land and pollutes water as well which makes controlling their population extremely necessary.
