Pheasant hunting tips edging you towards success

As with any type of hunting activity, there are many little techniques that are gathered with experience, and acquiring that knowledge can make life so much easier. Gaining an edge in any activity and shifting an advantage your way simply has to make sense. Just like any type of game being pursued, there are several pheasant hunting tips that can be shared, some more obvious than others, but each allowing the upper hand to shift in your direction.

A properly trained dog is a great companion to have with you on a hunt, and this can be achieved through careful handling as a pup, introducing them to the scents, and familiarizing them to their requirement, which should be inbred anyway, so it is simply a case of channelling it in the right manner. The dog needs to be looked after correctly, so it is vital to keep it fully hydrated, as a distressed dog is no good to you at all. Therefore, an extra large bottle and a substantial bowl are 2 absolute essentials.

Many inexperienced hunters fail to appreciate the need for silence at all times. Simply slamming the car door when pulling up can ruin the hunting day before it has even started. The birds are smart enough to realize that with that particular sound danger is looming and they will be off like a shot. It also often goes unnoticed that water can be used to an advantage. By pushing the pheasants towards areas of high water, they become exposed and will either try to fly, or double back towards sheltered woodland, and this gives a good opportunity to pick them off.

If the weather becomes inclement, then this too can become advantageous. High winds and stormy skies are a hunters friend as confusion sets in amongst the birds. Using a pheasant calling device, can totally disorientate them - the sounds of the wind combined with the calls will surely confuse them. They will more often than not disclose their whereabouts and permit some close up shots. Snow is even better, especially heavy falls, as the birds are unable to run across the soft white stuff and are consequently forced to sit tight. The only way out therefore is up, and a good hunter can literally have a field day.

However, one of the best pheasant hunting tips is to establish the precise daily routine of the birds. So much unnecessary time is wasted hunting at the wrong times of day. Sacrifice a day of actual hunting to spend it researching, and in the long run it will pay dividends. Thinking outside of the norm can also help find that little clutch who seem to manage to evade detection. Perhaps a specific area that is considered too thick and never gets tracked, will turn out to be the one place that is thronging with game.

There are always little tactics to think about, from pheasant calling on the edges of marshland, to pushing them into areas they simply do not want to be, there are always ways to outsmart these illusive birds. Taking a bit of time to fully acquaint oneself with some of the rudimentary pheasant hunting tips, can alter a hunter's whole perspective on the techniques they require.
