Comparisons Between Western, Chinese, and Vedic Astrology
Astrology has always fascinated people. The astrology signs give people an idea of their personality and how they must react to other people’s personalities. It gives also enlightenment on the person as to his strengths and weaknesses and how what he must do to succeed in his goals.
Because of its popularity, we often hear people mention different types of astrology. And yes, there are quite a number of these. However, three are very popular. These are the Chinese astrology, Vedic astrology, and Western astrology. Though there are similarities among these three, there are also their differences.
Let us discuss each of these in order to have a better understanding of them.
1. Chinese astrology. Astronomy and the very well known Chinese philosophy have some influences on this specific type of astrology. It is a very old astrology but the peak of its popularity was during the Han dynasty, specifically between the 2nd century BC and the 2nd century AD. Included in the Chinese astrology are the five planets, ten Celestial stems, as well as the twelve Earthly branches. The lunisolare calendar, which is also known as the moon and sun calendar, is also present. Additionally, each planet represents a particular element which could be wood, water, or metal.
2. Vedic astrology. The Vedic astrology is also known as the Indian astrology. Quite similar to the western astrology, it also has 12 houses. The influence of the Vedic astrology is widespread in India. When people make decisions on marriage, making a new business, or naming a baby, they all consult the Vedic astrology. Its astrological chart is composed of 12 astrological signs and 12 astrological houses and each of these signs and houses is corresponding to the western astrology. Normally, Vedic astrological charts are drawn in a rectangular form; however, depending on the astrologer, it may also be drawn in a circle. Most importantly, the ruler (planets) of every sign in this astrology is also the same as those of the western astrology.
3. Western astrology. This is more popular among the European countries and in Northern America. Beginning with Aries and ending with Pisces, there are 12 astrology signs. Moreover, its 12 houses are named the same way as the astrology signs. Western astrology is also useful for predictive purposes. It is also possible to ask a question and obtain an answer when using western astrology. In using this particular astrology, knowing one’s sun sign is of utmost importance. The sun sign pertains to the sign the sun was in at the time of the person’s birth.
There is no distinct proclamation as to which type of astrology is the best to use. What is important is that the person who wants to use it believes in its power and is not only using it to prove something. Along with the horoscopes, astrology is an important tool for one’s well-being.
